It’s been a marathon shopping day. I may pass out if I add up how much we spent altogether. The good news is that we’re done! The kids will not be going back to school naked or in threadbare clothes.
I went through everyone’s drawers and pulled out everything that didn’t fit or was basically unfit to be worn anymore. Parker got one or two hand me down shirts from Gavin. Gwen wanted Parker’s small shirts but I told her no. She was pretty upset that she didn’t need any new clothes for school. Heath left me alone with her in the girl’s clothing section and she walked away from our shopping trip with way more than the pair of shoes we agreed she needed!
The boys hate shopping. I was getting a little annoyed in the boy’s section when they were wandering aimlessly, oblivious to the fact that I was trying to choose clothes for them! I know their sizes so I kind of wish I had just shopped for them by myself. I certainly didn’t need them there. They have no clothing opinions!
We went to Costco after buying clothes and a clock. Ok, so we got a couple clocks. One is for the kids’ bathroom to help them manage their morning time. Ha! That’s the plan anyway. We’ll see if it works or if I just picked out a pretty clock that goes nicely in their bathroom. The other clock is for our bedroom. It is gorgeous! Stay tuned for pictures.
Costco was Costco on a Saturday. ‘Nuff said. Then it was to the mall for shoes. The mall was crazy. It’s like it’s mid August or something and everyone is trying to get ready for school. After practically climbing over people in the shoe store, the kids wanted to dream in the Lego store. Heath told me I could go to the van. I didn’t think I would take him up on the offer until we were cornered by a sales guy in the store. I was suffocating in the masses and could not take another second. Gwen and I listened to music in the van until the boys were done.
Gwen had to try on her new hot pink ballet flats in the van. She was uncharacteristically blah when I was helping her look for shoes. It took a minute but she finally admitted she didn’t want black shoes. She likes color. She was really digging some deep purple ballet flats until I found the hot pink ones. Hello! Signature color! Those shoes say Gwen all over them. The boys picked out shoes that really speak to their personalities as well. Good job kids!
My patience for public and people in general was out. I sat on the couch wearing my sexy royal blue suede heels while watching What Not to Wear. I went into Payless thinking I really wanted a pair of brown wingtip heels. When I tried them on they just weren’t hitting the right note. Heath talked me out of those shoes and into the awesome heels. Those shoes made me tear up they are so awesome! I had to say yes to the shoes.
They go with my wardrobe so much better than the brown shoes. The blue heels go with every dress I have made. They go with my skinny jeans for a hot date night. They even go with the denim capris I was wearing today with my ratty old BYU t-shirt! Which is why I was wearing them while watching Fashion TV starring Stacy and Clinton.
The story doesn’t end there. As soon as dinner was over Heath told me I had to help him pick out shirts online. The whole family will be outfitted in BYU shirts and gear, as well as shirt.woot t-shirts in 7-10 business days. I’m so excited! This is my favorite time of year. I love ordering new BYU shirts and directing the backpack fairy to some sweet shirts for the kids.
School is just around the corner. I am thrilled and not so excited all at the same time. But mostly thrilled. A new school year always feel shiny and fresh. Like the possibilities are endless and the future is so bright I gotta wear shades.
A new school year smells like new clothes with crisp creases. It smells like freshly sharpened pencils and sweat. Both the smell of sweat hanging in the musky air as well as sweaty football players with grass stains on their uniforms. I can’t wait for football season to start. If I put the plastic footballs in my apothecary jars now will time move faster?
All I know for sure is that I am done shopping.
